Tyra Lundgren - large stone ware wall relief

Tyra Lundgren - A bird sings at the dawn of day among large leaves (En fågel sjunger i gryningen bland stora blad). Size:  122 x 55 cm (Professionally mended top let corner).

This stoneware relief was made in the early 50´s. It is an important piece since it was shown at Tyra´s large separate exhibition at Gallery Blanche in Stockholm in 1956. It was also shown at an exhibtion at Liljevachs Konsthall in Stockholm. After that it was part of a large installation in a bank in Kalmar from the early 70´s. In her own words she says about this piece that: 

-" This large group of leaves is one of the preparatory works for a larger relief, Dawn, that was set up in the entrance of Danderyd's hospital. The tremendous hair growth force that drives stems straight up the earth always fascinates me a lot. Around my summer workplace patio, huge sunflowers and stands of monumental horseradish clusters grow. Sometimes I have fun folding large, thin layers of clay into something in the form of abstract sculptures and large leaf-shaped bowls."
